In this exclusive Q&A, ASYA Principal Architect, Albert Yu, and SMDC Vice President and Head of Design, Innovation & Strategy, Jessica Sy, share the vision, challenges, and unique design elements that make Sail Residences more than just a place to live—it’s a thoughtfully designed community that embodies movement, connection, and purpose.

Q: What was the overarching vision for Sail Residences when you began the design process? How does it reflect the lifestyle aspirations of its target residents?

Architect Albert Yu:
Sail Residences was designed to strike a balance between tranquility and urban vibrancy. We wanted to create a sanctuary within the city—one that provides respite from the hustle and bustle while keeping residents connected to Manila’s dynamic culture and lifestyle.

Q: How did you integrate the contrasting elements of Manila Bay’s serenity and the Mall of Asia Complex’s energy into the development’s design?

Jessica Sy:

The location itself naturally presents this duality. Positioned between the shores of Manila Bay and the vibrant SM Mall of Asia Complex, Sail Residences delivers both relaxation and excitement. The development maximizes bay views, incorporates generous living spaces, and offers amenities that promote both leisure and connectivity.
